As she made her way along Calder Vale High Street on the morning of Friday 20th March, Sheila Birtle reflected that most gardens in this area were beautifully decorated with spring flowers. The terrace homes had cheery clusters and vibrant colors from their window boxes or jardinieres as well! Even more so than other areas close to Manchester where you can still see summer coming soon after winter ends (like Heaton), these parts seem far brighter because everything blooms so early here:
