Everything you need to know about fabrics in one post

    Category: Shopping

Everything you need to know about fabrics in one post Cotton, Polyester, Blends, Tri-blends - fabric options are unlimited when it comes to buying apparel. A large number of options can often make it confusing to choose a product when you are out and about for shopping. This gives you a detailed comparison of the popular fabric options and their features to help you choose the best. Arguably, the most popular fabric used for t-shirts, polos, and other pieces of apparel is cotton. Making its earliest entry back in prehistoric periods, this natural material often dubbed “the fabric of our life” still continues to be one of the most popular options for all sorts of clothing. Cotton Cotton fabric is naturally breathable, soft, and is gentle on the skin. However, it can shrink in size and is also prone to wrinkling and fading. Based on your requirements and preferences, you can choose from regular cotton, ring-spun cotton, ringspun & combed cotton, and other options. Polyester In the 1970s, another fabric made its way into the apparel world and quickly became a household name- polyester. Polyester, made from petroleum products, is lightweight, highly durable, and has moisture-wicking properties. This made the material a preferred choice for work outfits and sports jerseys. Although polyester does raise some environmental concerns, the advent of recycled plastics has given it a sustainable edge Poly-cotton blends Slowly people felt the need for combining the soft natural feel of cotton and the durability of polyester. And that is how Cotton-polyester blends came into existence. Poly-cotton blends features of both fabrics to give you apparel that is almost as soft and breathable as 100% cotton while being moisture-wicking and fast-drying like 100% polyester. You can find blends in various proportions of the two fabrics like 50/50, 60/40, and so on. Any product that contains more than 50% of cotton will be labeled CVC(Chief Value Cotton). Tri-blends Tri-blends, as the name implies, is made by blending three fabrics. Usually, it is a combination of Cotton and Polyester with the addition of Rayon, a synthetic fiber. Most tri-blends will have 50% polyester with varying ratios of the other two materials. The addition of rayon gives the fabric a luxuriously soft feel akin to that of silk. This article also covers other important fabrics like various kinds of fleece, acrylic, spandex, and more. You will also find simple explanations of jargon such as - Singles, pill-resistant, Moisture-wicking, Fabric weight, DWR, and more - which often get thrown around in apparel descriptions, but make little sense to most people.
