How to Establish Good Communication Skills in Preschoolers?

    Category: Education

Communication is a vital early learning skill that all parents and educators want to get right. It's the foundation for a thriving academic and social life. If kids are able to communicate about their feelings and the things they've learned, it becomes easy for them to succeed in various social groups. Whether it's in school, at a hobby class, or in the park, kids will excel and grow if they are able to communicate well. They've got to be clear in their speech, good listeners, and should have a decent hold on the language in terms of grammar and vocabulary so that they can converse with others. There are a number of educational games that have activities and puzzles that help kids learn new words, sentence framing, and phonetics. Look out for these educational games for kindergarten kids to help make this easy and fun. Here are some of the simplest ways to establish good communication skills in preschoolers: 1.Drop the Baby Talk It's important to use full words and sentences while talking to your preschooler. When they're toddlers, everyone enjoys pampering them and using playful baby talk to communicate. But as they get a little older and are ready for kindergarten, it makes sense to use correct sentences. Kids mirror whatever they see and hear, so if your speech is clear, they will pick up on that. To begin with, download a few educational games for preschoolers that focus on language. 2.Describe Events At the end of the day, talk to your child and describe your day to them. Ask them to do the same. They could describe their day at preschool, what was taught, what they ate, the conversations they had with other kids, and more. You could also go for a walk in the park and describe the scenery. Whether they are looking at birds in the sky, fruits on the tree, or cats running around, they'll have fun talking about it and, at the same time, they'll be strengthening their communication skills too. 3.Word of the Day Teach them a new word every day. It could be anything - a fruit, vegetable, color, animal, object, or body part, among others. Teach it to them at the start of the day and ask them to try and incorporate it during the day as much as they can. This will help in sharpening their vocabulary as well as memory. It's pretty easy. For example, if the word of the day is "dog", they can say things like, "I saw a dog in the park", "The dog is wagging its tail", or "If I had a dog, I would name him Tommy". This way, with simple sentences, new words will be used every day. 4.Storytelling Games Another fun way to improve their communication is to have a storytelling session at home a few times during the week. It's simple; all you've got to do is start a story, and everyone playing has to take turns to continue the story by adding a sentence. You could start by saying, "Once upon a time there lived a queen", and the next person could say, "And she lived in a castle made of glass". The story goes on till a player decides to give it a conclusion. It's an amazing way to focus on building the child's communication skills as well as creative skills. 5.Reading Here's an activity that has been successful through the ages when it comes to improving communication. Parents, teachers, educators, etc. have always engaged kids in reading. It's a hobby that, when promoted, reaps great rewards in skill-building. Storybooks, whether physical or online, open up a child's imagination. They are inspirational since they talk about empathy, kindness, bravery, and everything else we want our children to learn and practice. 6.Educational Games There are educational games for preschoolers that you will find on a number of online apps. They are designed by special educators who understand the pace at which a child learns. Through these games, there's constant learning that leads to kids developing excellent communication skills. along with communication skills, they grasp and build a number of academic and social-emotional skills too. Communication is a key ingredient for holistic growth and development in children. At an early age itself, you can engage the child in simple games and activities that will help them get a good grasp on communicating well. The activities mentioned above along with some educational games for kindergarten children will do the trick. Go ahead, start practicing those communication skills today.
