ICD - THE ELEVENTH REVISION

Category: Health

Though with a delay, the US healthcare Industry successfully moved from ICD-9 to ICD-10 for Medical Coding. Just when the industry has settle down with the change and sailing smooth, WHO projects a 2018 launch for the new version ICD-11 and present the new code set. Just when we are almost entering the last quarter of 2017, the World Health Organization and its members reached a major milestone towards finalizing the 11th revision of ICD-10. In fact, a ICD-11 Beta Draft also has been released. You can browse through the beta draft on WHO portal here. Expected Implementation - 2018: While World Health Organization expect to present the new code set ICD-11 in 2018, It is uncertain when the US will move to this new code set. It is currently uncertain as to how the new revision will compare to the old one in terms of major changes or the number of codes in the new set. It is however know from WHO official website that the goal is to implement a comprehensive set of codes that will reduce the likelihood of another code system draft - ICD-12. So this is a good news. However, we all know that the US healthcare industry moved from ICD-9 to ICD-10 with a couple of years delay compared to other countries and that is the main reason why the ICD-11 appears to be coming too early for the US healthcare industry.
