Is Brock Osweiler ready to lead the Denver Broncos into the next generation?

Category: Sports

Last season we saw the Broncos go 12-4 being led with one of the greatest defenses of all time. 17 year legendary centerpiece, Peyton Manning may have been nothing more but lackluster, in his numerical statistics, with just 9 tds and his 2nd lowest completion pct in his career, but, he is moving on into the sunset as a champion. The Sheriff is leaving the game he dominated after a long outstanding career. But he, in fact, ended up as the greatest "game manager" of all time at the end, as he got his 2nd NFL Championship. Which now leave the next thought for Denver? Is Brock Osweiler the answer? Is he the one who is ready to carry on what the Broncos have created, with John Elway and his belief in him, it’s hard to disagree with his choice. He showed many different moments of really good play, vs. the Patriots he was excellent with 270 yds and put up enough points to beat the high scoring team. His ball placement, his decision making, and he even called audible at the line, showing he has his head on straight. Signing him for around 45 million and 3 years, was a risky move, but throwing away potential is something that no team ever wants to look back on in shame. He started 7 games which includes winning some really big ones. He was drafted in 2012 from Arizona State and was seen as a decent QB, but with the brass in Denver believing in him, one has to think they see something that they feel is worth the funds they are putting into him. Osweiler is a talented kid, and one has to remember he is still essentially a rookie. You cannot really expect the Broncos to be the same kind of team, this upcoming season. But we will see, his stats show that if we extrapolate the numbers, it’s possible he could be a 20-23 td guy. In the games he started, the Broncos scored 21ppg, which was essentially the same (20ppg) as the teams scoring output when Peyton Manning was starting for the team. The key for the Broncos, is if the defense stays at least closely to the same, a reliable QB could be a great fit for the Broncos going forward. Denver has the best defense in the NFL, currently. As long as Osweiler just manages the game good enough, they should still be able to make the playoffs. He has to keep in mind, as well as any Denver fans, he doesn't need to be a prime time QB in his first full season. With the powerful defense they carry, along with a "maturing" division that is still growing, at best, it’s hard to not see them moving into the playoffs again. The Broncos won the Bowl this year, with a below average QB this last season. That may not be easy to accept, or may even come off as mean, but it's the truth, as it was the defense that won it them. What does concern me though, is the move is almost as quick triggered as the Matt Flynn move made by Seattle back in 2012. And Flynn actually looked better in his games he played. Flynn was sought after like he was the next Tom Brady, or Peyton Manning, and he ended up with just 7 games as a starter, 2541 yds, 17 td passes to 11 picks, and a career that ended 2 years after his huge signing. Teams have to be careful when they fall in love with young prospects so quickly. I am a firm believer in trusting the youth, otherwise they could lose their own confidence, but the teams have to allow them to grow and earn the huge contract payout. Right now, the priority they should have first in their tracks, should be fixing that lower ended offensive line. Getting him solid protection and having a running game will be essential to keeping him upright and taking the right steps forward. I do question, in the end, if Osweiler is worth that much money for such a sample of on field game play. But the fans should trust Elway, who has been pretty solid with his choices thus far. If he thinks Osweiler is the man to lead them, it's hard to disagree. For more information about Daily Football predictions please visit www.vegastopdogs.com.
