Myths about IVF treatment in India

Category: Technology

For all couples, the journey to parenthood is an emotional one. Every couple's parenting journey is unique. Fertility treatments can help couples who cannot conceive naturally. IVF (in vitro fertilization) is an example of an advanced fertility treatment that can help couples become parents. However, many people are not aware of the IVF treatment process and have fears and misconceptions. Before doing IVF, couples need to know the process as well as the factors that affect IVF treatment. Let's look at some common misconceptions about IVF treatment. 1. Myth: A woman's age has no bearing on the success of IVF. Fact: The success rate of IVF varies with age. Fertility decreases as women age and the success rate of IVF also decreases. 2. Myth: Triplets or quadruplets are always the result of IVF. Fact: Previously, two or three embryos were used for implantation, resulting in twins, triplets or quadruplets. Nowadays, advanced technologies such as PGT, ERA, and other techniques allow only one healthy embryo to be implanted, thereby avoiding multiple pregnancies. 3. Myth: All infertile couples need IVF treatment. Fact: Depending on the condition and severity, fertility treatments such as ovulation induction with timed intercourse, IUI and other treatments are available to help couples conceive. As a result, not all couples need IVF. 4. Myth: Male smoking has no effect on IVF success rates. Fact: Male smoking reduces IVF success rates and increases the risk of miscarriage. 5. Myth: IVF is completely successful. Fact: Many factors contribute to the success of IVF treatment. In case of IVF, the success rate is 50-70%. 6. Myth: Babies born through IVF have abnormalities. Fact: Many people fear IVF because of this misconception. IVF babies are just like any other child born through natural conception. 7. Myth: To undergo the IVF procedure, one needs to be admitted to a hospital. Fact: IVF treatment is a one-day procedure. After the procedure is completed, the patient is free to return home. Hospitalization is not required. Couples should not delay parenthood beyond a certain age. If career aspirations and other commitments prevent you from conceiving, it is better to opt for egg, sperm or embryo freezing which can be used later to conceive at your convenience. With lifestyle changes and PCOS, endometriosis, low sperm count on the rise, it is wise to take fertility treatment at the right time without any postponement.
