Time Management Techniques to Learn From Online Internship

Category: Education

Time management strategies play a vital role in every professional's work efficiency. Recruiters ask time management interview questions to gauge candidates' effective time management strategies to optimize work efficiency and productivity. Likewise, it is impossible to answer for an entry-level applicant to answer these questions. With the rising significance of time management skills, even more so during trying times like the pandemic, here are a few time management techniques that can be learned from work-from-home internships to help with work efficiency. Let's start! 1. Estimate time per task We all want to log out as soon as the clock strikes the end of the day. It is best to take some time to organize for the next day. Here is your unpaid or paid internship to help you manage your work accordingly. It can be challenging, but later, you get the hang of it. During your internship, begin your day quickly and have your thoughts organized. For example, if checking and reverting to emails is your first task, assign not more than 30 minutes. 2. Track your time Mapping time is the most enjoyable part of time management techniques. Why do you ask? You want to keep your thoughts clear and ready to function with great ideas to ensure work productivity. Therefore, let your alarm and time management apps deal with the rest of your day(s). It is a good habit to start building during an online internship, which can benefit your future. 3. Employ the 4-D rule As a working professional, you might think never saying 'No' is a sign of efficiency. Let me burst your bubble, it's not. Overworking yourself can lead to stress, anxiety, and even burnout, common during work-from-home internships with stipend. Trust me; you do not want to experience that before entering corporate culture. As a result, I have developed the 4-D (Delete, Delay, Diminish, and Delegate) rule for effective time management. Delete- Ask yourself if the task will bring beneficial results or if it's interchangeable with another project. If it is, you can delete the task and go ahead with the next one. Delay- Ask yourself if the task is needed on an urgent basis or can be started at a later date. In this case, concentrate on other tasks which require priority. Diminish- Check if the task demands the amount of time designated or can be done in a shorter time. Delegate- Can someone else take the task better and more efficiently? If so delegate it to him/her/ them. You cannot be the Jack of all trades since it will allow you become the master of none. Time management techniques can help working professionals improve their time management skills and increase productivity. You can start the above technique in your online internship. 4. Quit multitasking Although assumed to be a virtue, multitasking can drain your time management skills. Interns it is expected to multitask in their online internship so that they can upskill in every area. But ensure that you do not forget to polish your main area. This can also damage your brain and also decrease your productivity. According to an analysis, "People loaded with several streams of electronic information do not pay attention, control their memory or switch from one job to another as well as those who prefer to complete one task at a time." 5. Learn to prioritize As discussed earlier, interns are considered to do all the work in their unpaid or paid internships. But do not worry; an internship is a trial and error-method. Learn to prioritize your work which is essential when you start working as a professional individual. Those who do not plan their day can easily face the trouble of being at a loss the next day.
