Why Should You Study Abroad?
Category: Academics
Confused about choosing the right path that will land me to a successful future; I decided to pay a visit to an educational consultant so that a professional counselor can help me find a solution. While waiting for the counselor to receive me in the waiting lounge, I came across a pile of colorful brochures lying on the desk with a flashy caption saying ‘Study abroad and change your life!’ There it was! That’s what I was looking for, something that will turn my life around, in a positive way of course. The caption on the brochure intrigued me to read further while I waited for the consultancy session to begin. It highlighted the major reasons why someone should study abroad like higher quality of education with international exposure further leading to better career prospects that will give you an edge over other candidates while applying for a job anywhere. By the time I was done reading it, the consultant came and escorted me to a meeting room where we began with our consultancy session with a hot cup of tea. He asked me about my previous education and academic record and gave several options of programs and study destinations that I was eligible to apply for. He further told me about how a study abroad experience can turn my life around and gave me several reasons why I should go for it. Benefits of Studying Abroad: • A totally new experience to study in another country with different customs and cultural values where you get to delve into a new culture and live your life in a different way. • Broaden your horizon and make yourself more self-confident and independent as you have to live by yourself managing the day to day stuff and make important decisions on your own. • Get a post study work permit after you complete the study program which is another add on to your resume as it can help you gain international work experience. Enthralled by the amazing consultancy session, I discussed it with my family, did some more research and planned to apply for one of the suggested program i.e. MBA in Australia. The consultant guided me professionally throughout the application process and got all my documents arranged that were required for admission and sent them across to the university. Soon after that I got accepted in the program and received the offer letter from the university, the consultant then prepared my visa application and lodged my student visa for studying in Australia. I was lucky enough to get my student visa granted within two months and I flew away to pursue my dreams. While studying abroad I did not only gain substantial cultural capital by making friends belonging to various nationalities but I was also able to gain comprehensive knowledge about the subject I studied with contemporary and state of the art learning techniques that I would not have gained if I was studying in my home county. Yes, the consultant was absolutely right about everything he said. Studying abroad did change my life, I now consider myself as more resourceful person having international exposure, increased knowledge and a broader mind set. Hence, I recommend everyone I come across to definitely go abroad for studies whenever they get a chance as it truly changes your life!
