Why You Should Focus on Improving social-emotional learning in preschool.
Category: Education
Children go through the same emotions as adults. The only difference is that they aren’t very good at expressing it. Unlike adults, they aren't able to define what they're feeling in the first place. That's why the emotional wellbeing of a child is extremely important. It simply means that a child must learn to be aware of their feelings, identify them, and then communicate the same to their parents or teachers. When it comes to negative emotions like anger, sadness, jealousy, etc., if they bottle it up because they don’t know how to express them, it will only lead to them growing up into bitter human beings; that's most certainly what we don’t want for our kids. Similarly, their social wellbeing is also important. We must teach kids how to interact with others & some math racing games. When they have a healthy social life, they will grow up to be kind, helpful, and empathetic. To ensure healthy social and emotional wellbeing in kids, parents and teachers focus on something called social-emotional learning activities for preschool. It's a set of skills that sharpens the social and emotional abilities of children. Let's break it down. We have some math worksheet for kids which will help improve in math skills and math worksheet for preschoolers to succeed in school. Social-emotional learning is made up of 5 components, namely self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness. All these components are interrelated and the aim is to ensure that kids learn how to do right by themselves and by others. Self-awareness and self-management refer to the ability to understand and control one's emotions, respectively. Social awareness and relationship skills refer to being able to understand and empathize with others and maintain friendships. Lastly, responsible decision making simply means that they must know how to analyze a situation and react in the most responsible way that seems in everyone's best interest. Children who are socially and emotionally strong will be attentive to their surroundings, more approachable, confident, and are likely to not throw unnecessary tantrums. Here are some social-emotional learning activities for preschool kids. 1.Acts of Kindness Teachers and parents should encourage acts of kindness among children. It can be as simple as bringing a basket of fruits for the elderly neighbor or giving the neighborhood dog some treats. The joy of giving is a wonderful feeling and kids must be able to experience it. once they realize the happiness it brings to others and themselves, they will try to be kind and giving all the time. 2.Feelings Chart A feelings chart or calendar can be maintained in the house, maybe put up on the refrigerator. At the end of the day, the child must recall the various feeling they've had in the day - something that made them happy, sad, confused, etc. They can write down all these feelings and have a talk with their parents about the same. This is a great way to understand how your child acts on various emotions. 3.Goal for the Day Obviously, kids are too young to have major priorities or life goals. But they can start with small goals for the day. This can be anything from trying to make a friend, being kind to a dog/cat, listening to a new song, practicing a hobby like dancing or drawing, etc. The aim is for them to have something to look forward to in the day. 4.Read an Inspirational Story This is mainly for the parents - read a story to your kids every night. Try and read about people who have led inspiring lives. All great stories have a few failures hidden in them. Teach your kids that it's okay to fail; the important thing is that they give it their best shot and keep trying. When your child feels down or like they've failed, they will remember these stories and motivate themselves to accept the failure with grace and try again soon.
